Milnerton DLTC: renew your driver's licence card (2026)

Last checked: 26 October 2026 (SAST). Lines marked ⚠️ are undated or not confirmed on an official page. Check those with the City before you go.

New to renewing? Read the national guide first: How to renew your driver's licence at a South African licensing centre. It covers the documents, the eye test, temporary licences, NaTIS booking, card collection and common errors. This page covers only what's specific to Milnerton DLTC: address, hours, fees in Cape Town, how the queue works, and nearby alternatives.

1. Who this is for

Two Milnerton offices: don't mix them up.

  • Milnerton Driving Licence Testing Centre, William Penn Drive: licence card renewals, tests, PrDPs. (City page)
  • Milnerton Vehicle Registration Centre, Municipal Building, Pienaar Street: vehicle registration and licence discs. Saturdays close at 11:30, not 12:30. (City page)

2. Disclaimer

General information from public sources, checked 26 October 2026. Not legal advice. Not an official City of Cape Town, Western Cape Government or RTMC page. Check the official links below or call the City before you go.

Public holidays Not stated on the City page ⚠️. Assume closed.
Card renewals? Yes, "Licence renewals" is a listed service.
Booking or walk-in? Walk-in. NaTIS eQueue doesn't cover the Western Cape (why). City online bookings are for vehicle discs and accounts, not licence cards.
Fee (City of Cape Town) R140 if your licence is still valid; R185 if it has already expired. Temporary licence R45. ⚠️ Undated. See below.
Plan for The City says 2–3 hours. Recent reviews report 35–60 minutes on quieter mornings (unverified).

Sources: City – Milnerton DLTC, WCG facility listing, City – Learners and drivers licences.

Getting there: search "Milnerton Traffic Department, William Penn" in a map app. Parking and public transport aren't published by the City ⚠️. Some third-party directories give Koeberg Road, Potsdam Road or Pienaar Road. Those look wrong or refer to other offices, so use the City's William Penn Drive address.

Hours caveat: the City publishes 08:00–15:30, but map listings show weekday closing at 15:00 (aggregated listing). The queue probably closes before the doors do. Arrive early. ⚠️ No official cut-off is published.

4. What's different in Cape Town

The full national document list is on the hub page. City of Cape Town specifics:

Fees at City of Cape Town centres (as published 26 Oct 2026)

Item Amount Source Confidence
Card issue (renewing before expiry) R140 City; WCG Medium. Undated, unchanged for years ⚠️
Renewal after expiry R185 City Medium-low. Looks like R140 + R45, not broken down ⚠️
Temporary driving licence R45 City; WCG Medium

These are lower than the published rates in KZN (R250) and Mogale City in Gauteng (R228). See the hub fee table.

5. How a visit to Milnerton goes

For the national step-by-step, see the hub. At Milnerton, as described by recent reviewers (unverified):

  1. Arrive before 08:00 on a mid-week weekday, or early Saturday (closes 12:30). Avoid month-end and the days after public holidays (general guidance).
  2. Queue outside. Security checks you have your documents and lets people in as seats free up.
  3. Intake window: hand in DL1 and documents.
  4. Eye test, photo and fingerprints, which one reviewer says happened at a single station.
  5. Pay at the cashier, keep your receipt, and ask for a temporary licence if you're already expired.

Collection: come back to Milnerton (the centre where you applied) with your ID once your card is ready. Check first by SMS or on NaTIS (hub §8). The City destroys cards not collected within 120 days (City).

6. If something goes wrong at Milnerton

General errors (NaTIS "province not added", eNaTIS outages, card delays) are covered on the hub. Local escalation:

  1. Centre supervisor or manager on the spot. The City says complaints "may be lodged with the management of each DLTC" (City).
  2. City Traffic Services: 0860 103 089 / traffic.services@capetown.gov.za. Have your receipt number, date and time ready.
  3. Western Cape Government driving licence helpdesk: 021 483 0520 / 6401 / 2469 / 2080 / 2078 (WCG).

No Milnerton-specific outage notices were found for October 2026. The countrywide eNaTIS outage on 6 Oct 2026 would have affected all centres.

Never pay "runners" or anyone outside the official cashier.

7. Is Milnerton the right centre? Nearby alternatives

You can renew at any City of Cape Town DLTC (City release, Feb 2025), but you collect where you applied. These nearby City centres list licence renewals and the same hours (Mon–Fri 08:00–15:30, Sat 08:00–12:30):

Centre Address Guide Source
Gallows Hill DLTC Cnr Ebenezer and Somerset roads, Green Point Coming City
Goodwood DLTC Cnr Frans Conradie and Hugo streets, Goodwood Coming City
Bellrail DLTC Bellrail Road, Bellville Coming City

All Western Cape centres: /licensing/western-cape/.

About the City's "waiting times" table: the City's weekly waiting times are for learner's and driving test bookings, not card renewals. As at 19 Oct 2026, Milnerton showed 68 days for a learner's test and 29 days for a light-vehicle test. That tells you nothing about the renewal queue on the day.
